Thank You!

Sunday, 27 November 2011

Hey ladies, I just wanted to say a quick thank you following my blog. 23 Followers isn't a lot compared to some people, but it's nice to know I have some people out there that are interested in what I have to say, and its very nice to know that the things I post could potentially be helping someone out there too!

Thanks again!
Shereen x
Freshly washed hair today!
(excuse the messy parting)

< If I knew how to relax my hair, I would so do it right now. Don't get me wrong I love the pros of stretching but when it comes to styles I'm such a bore! I either opt for the high bun or sometimes I feel have it down, and 100% of the time my hair is curly because I always plait it before I go to bed.
My straighteners have broke, I do not own a hand held dryer (which I guess is a blessing and a curse), the only heat appliance I have with me is my hooded dryer, but roller setting is out the question! I do not have the patience for that with all this new growth, so I guess I won't be having my hair straight until my hair gets relaxed.

I Kept today's wash day pretty simple because I was in a lazy mood. I deep conditioned on dry hair (with a mix of herbal essences replenishing conditioner and lo'real elvive full restore masque), left that on my hair for 2 hours while I went to sleep, once I found the strength to get out of bed I jumped in the shower washed out the deep conditioner did a quick co-wash, applied leave ins (Elasta QP h2o, Giovanni direct leave in + olive oil) and I am air drying as we speak.

I cannot wait to relax my hair, and show you guys the picture I took on my last relaxer day in June. Even when my hair is wet and curly it looks so much better and healthier than that picture! Which is really good news, it's nice to know I'm making progress at my own rate.

Hair Care On A University/College Budget

Saturday, 19 November 2011

For those of us studying away from home, it can be really difficult balancing your money on food, travel expenses etc but most importantly hair care (in terms of my blog). I thought it would be a good idea to share some tips of how I look after my hair on a budget, and for those of you who have tips, come and share them!

  • Pound shops!
Checkout your local pound shop (dollar store for the US ladies) for some hair products/tools bargains!
My nearest pound shop a good range of hair products from conditioners, hair grips, pins, water spray bottles, even those hair dye bowls and brushes.
  • Pharmacy/drug store deals!
Boots and superdrug are always having some kind of hair care promotions deal, whether its 3 for 2, or buy 1 get 1 free (aussie going on at superdrug currently if I remember correctly). This is also a great way to try new products ranges as well.
  • Following on from the second point, get yourselves a boots advantage card and a superdrug beauty card, collecting points from purchases and using them as discount to future purchases is brilliant, means you can save that extra £1 or so for something else ;)

    Cheap moisture spritz
  • whenever a conditioner bottle of mine is on it's way out, I mix it with water (2 parts water, 1 part conditioner) and use it as a leave in/moisture mix in a spray bottle. Cheap quick way to add some moisture back into your hair (don't forget to seal with an oil/butter after).
  • ebay + amazon are your best friends!
If I'm wanting to try a new product out, I always see if I can get it cheaper from ebay or amazon.(Make sure your always buying from reputable buyers from ebay).
  • Do not jump on bandwagons, if you have found something that works for you stick with it. By all means research products ladies claim to have success with, but don't feel the need to run out and go buy it because it works for them, it may not work for you, and might I add jumping on bandwagons is expensive!
Take Care!

It was fate!

Wednesday, 16 November 2011

Hey lovlies, I come to you writing this post with a smile on my face :D, I finally found my moisture and seal combo wooo!!

Now this post is evident you must try and experiment with different things, and do not be discouraged if things that work for other people do not work for you.
So for moisturising and sealing I use Sta Sof Fro 2 in 1 special blend moisturising lotion activator and a shea butter oil mix I made.

The weird bit about this product was that my mom brought it for herself and never used it, and it's been in the bathroom collecting dust. Now being the product junkie (I am now a recovered PJ) I am snapped it up and just added it to my collection of junk but never thought it use it. Fast forward 2 months later I just thought to give it a try, applied it to my hair in sections and sealed with my shea butter and oil mix, proceeded to GHE then went to sleep. The next day when I took my hair down I was in shock! seriously, I couldn't believe my hair was feeling so soft!

So you know when your thinking to yourself how do you know if your hair likes a certain product? Trust me you will know, I can't even explain how soft it felt it was just weird, like is this really my hair?

The ingredients of this product are:
Water, Glycerin, Propylene glycol, Behentrimonium methosulfate, Cetearyl alcohol PPG-10 Cetyl Ether, Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, Isopropyl Lanolate, Synthetic Wax, Fragrance (Parfum), Hydrolyzed Collagen, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazilnone, Pa,nthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate.

I read somewhere that if you find a product your hair likes look at the top 5 ingredients and look for them in future hair products.
Water
Glycerin - Humectant
Propylene glycol - Humectant
Behentrimonium methosulfate - Conditioning agent i.e softness
Cetearyl alcohol - Fat

I will be on the hunt for these ingredients when buying future products :)
What are you ladies to moisturise and seal your hair with? Do share!

Update

Thursday, 10 November 2011

Hey everyone, hope you've all been well.
Blogging has taking a back seat with me recently, I got 3 deadlines at uni coming up plus juggling work I've had no time to make posts.

But I just thought I'd make a quick little post about some things that have changed...

I finally found a moisturising and sealing combo that keeps my hair feeling soft! (stay tuned for a post)
I've decided to change my hair dressers. The previous hairdresser I was at was far to expensive for the little services included in the price.I managed to find another one who's prices are exactly the same but they included more services (trim and styling for example).
I have yet to book my consultation with my new hair dresser but when I do I will let you know how it goes.

I think I have been over conditioning my hair which resulted in some breakage, especially when my hair is wet
:(, I'm hoping to stop the breakage by the time I get my relaxer, wish me good luck!

And of course I have been protective styling 98% of the time
Take care xx
