I Relaxed! (Week Late Post)

Sunday, 16 December 2012

I decided to relax my hair at 15 weeks post relaxer.
Last time I relaxed my hair I didn't leave my relaxer on for long enough so I knew this relaxing process was going to be a little tricky as I had to relax my newgrowth and go back over the under processed areas.

To help me decide how long to leave the relaxer on for, I just collected my shedded hair strands and did little tests on those.
In the end I left the relaxer on my new growth for about 15-18mins and went over the under processed parts for 5-7 mins.

I really wanted to pay attention to my edges this time, I always find that this area doesn't relax as well, I think this was the most difficult part of the relaxing process because of course I didn't want to over process this area since its so fragile but I want my edges to be under processed again.

For those who don't know I use Affirm FiberGuard relaxer

To prepare for my relaxer  I coated my hair with the Preserve Strengthening Serum and with some Chi Silk Infusion.

I used the half half method to relax my hair.
It went really well!

After relaxing each half I washed out the relaxer with water, then applied the Sustenance Fortifying Treatment to my hair, left that on for 5 minutes then shampooed with the normalising shampoo 3 times.

I deep conditioned my hair for about 40 mins using
matrix ultra hydrating balm, roux porosity control, grapeseed oil, matrix smoothing conditioner

after rinsing out my deep conditioner I used the Paul Mitchell super skinny daily treatment for about 3 minutes, then did a final rinse of cool water.

I used my regular leave ins
Paul Mitchell Awaphui moisture mist, chi keratin mist, Paul Mitchell super skinny serum and proceeded to rollerset.

  1. Congrats on your stretch! Were you able to correct those areas that were underprocessed? I had the same issue as you when I first started using the Affirm's Fiberguard system. How long have you been using it for?

    1. Thanks! I did manage to correct some areas, some still have a lot of texture but I think I'm just going to have to deal with it. I've been using it for a year, this was the second time using the system doing a self-relax. Hope that helps :)
